Chief Communications Officer Job Description Template

We are looking for a Chief Communications Officer to lead our communications and public relations teams in the development and implementation of all internal and external communication strategies. 

You will lead the creation and implementation of unified marketing, communications, and PR plans that will help strengthen our brand identity. You will also be required to establish open and transparent internal communication channels where employees’ needs, preferences, and expectations can be addressed to increase their overall success and productivity.

As the Chief Communications Officer, you’ll be in charge of all media relations. You’ll also be expected to work closely with the executive team to provide communication and PR support to the CEO, to whom you’ll be reporting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that promotes the company’s products/services and raises brand awareness
• Maintain active relationships with external stakeholders (clients, business partners, the media) to ensure a favorable perception of the company
• Establish the guidelines and oversee the creation of media content, including blog posts, feature articles, interviews, presentations, and other types of PR content that increases brand awareness
• Work directly with graphic designers, copywriters, community managers, and digital agencies to ensure all deliverables align with the overall communications strategy and branding guidelines
• Support the CEO’s internal and external communication activities by approving speeches, reports, press releases, presentations, and social media posts
• Prepare the CEO and other executive-level staff for media interviews
• Ensure all company communication and messaging is in line with the company’s culture and objectives

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years experience in a communications/PR/marketing role
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field (a graduate degree is a plus)
• Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire and motivate large teams to accomplish a common goal
• Proven experience in project management, with a special focus on observing deadlines
• Robust knowledge of email and marketing automation tools (Mailchimp), content management platforms (WordPress), and social media marketing tools
• Proven working relationships with media members, social media influencers, and community leaders
