Market Risk Analyst Job Description Template

We are looking for an experienced Market Risk Analyst to investigate and analyze current market risks and the ones that may arise in the future. Your main responsibilities include determining individual and cumulative risk factors for our business and providing investment recommendations, relying on the results of your market analysis. 

To excel in this role, you need to have strong analytical and research skills, and a broad understanding of the industry in which you are conducting research. Knowledge of market risk concepts and statistics is a must. 

To qualify for this position, you should have a minimum of five years of related work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Maths, Statistics, Finance, or a relevant field. A Master’s degree is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Establishing risk management procedures and developing risk management systems
• Determining risk factors and providing investment recommendations by conducting a market risk analysis
• Calculating risk by using the value-at-risk (VaR) method and providing daily updates of risks
• Preparing quantitative and qualitative market risk reports
• Assessing and distributing information about business risks to all functions inside the company
• Assisting in the development of the company’s risk management systems
• Reviewing and approving new products and businesses 
• Notifying the Market Risk Management team of any possible issues

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience working as a Market Risk Analyst
• Advanced knowledge of market risk concepts
• Superb time-management and organization abilities
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Project Management experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• CFA or FRM certification is a plus
