How To Remove a Job Posting From LinkedIn
You can cancel a job posting on LinkedIn by accessing the Manage job posts dashboard in your account. The dashboard functionality is slightly different for Personal and LinkedIn Recruiter accounts.
How To Remove a LinkedIn Job Posting From a Company Page or a Personal Account
Scroll towards the bottom left and select the Manage job posts button (Manage jobs if you’re using the LinkedIn app)—you’ll be directed to the My items dashboard
Navigate to the job post you want to delete
Click on the ellipses button (⋯) to get a drop-down menu with options
Select Close job
Hit Close job post in the pop-up window to confirm
If you feel uncomfortable deleting the job posting directly from the dashboard, you can consider reviewing the job first using the Manage job option.
The Manage job option will take you to a detailed view where you can edit the job, track applicants and the number of clicks, and close the post. Most hiring managers recommend deleting a job through this window to prevent accidental removal of posts, especially if your account has several active jobs at a time.
Once you close your job, it will be removed from the Open tab and shifted to the Closed section so that you’re still able to access the details of the post.
How To Cancel a LinkedIn Job Posting From a LinkedIn Recruiter Account
A LinkedIn Recruiter account is associated with a pre-existing personal or company page and comes with many team-friendly hiring support tools, like advanced candidate search, AI-based matching, and a collaborative dashboard.
Follow these steps to close a job that was posted using a LinkedIn Recruiter account:
Go to your Recruiter homepage
Hover your cursor over the Jobs tab on the navigation bar
Click View all jobs from the presented options
Use the filters on the left pane to single out the job you want to delete
Click on the action button on the particular job
Select Close job
LinkedIn Recruiter allows you to perform actions in bulk, so you can close multiple jobs on the platform with a single click. Here’s how:
Navigate to View all jobs via the Jobs tab
Click on the checkbox beside each job you want to close
Hit the Close icon at the top of the list
Confirm by selecting Close jobs in the dialog box
You can access your closed jobs anytime by using the appropriate search filter on your dashboard.
After closing a job post on LinkedIn, the listing will no longer turn up in search results. Changes made to the jobs dashboard are usually reflected immediately unless you have integrated the platform with an Application Tracking System (ATS) software. In case you use an ATS to delete a LinkedIn job listing, the post may continue to appear until you re-sync the software with the site.
Keep in mind that candidates who had previously saved your job may still access it from their profile (even after it has been closed), but the post would no longer have the Apply button. They would instead be offered the option to contact you or other members of your hiring team.
Closed jobs can always be revisited on the Manage job posts dashboard. You can view the applicants who applied and proceed with screening and other hiring tasks as usual.
Are Jobs Posted on LinkedIn Auto-Renewable?
Job posts on LinkedIn are not auto-renewable. The default visibility duration varies for free and paid listings. Refer to the following table to understand how it works:
Type of Job Listing
Visibility Duration
Free
Free LinkedIn job posts have a default visibility of 6 months. If you don’t close the job within that period, it will be deemed expired and closed automatically. You can access the expired post from the Closed jobs tab in your dashboard
Paid
LinkedIn follows a pay-per-click model for paid job posts, so the visibility duration depends on the budget set for the job and the number of candidates who click through. The rate is fixed by LinkedIn and varies for different jobs. You have the option to:
Close your job post manually anytime
Increase or decrease your job posting budget online to tweak the visibility duration
If a paid job ad reaches its budget, LinkedIn will pause it instead of closing it. You can allot more budget to it to resume it
How To Repost Closed Jobs on LinkedIn
LinkedIn allows you to repost both closed and expired jobs. The option is available on your Manage job posts dashboard. All you have to do is:
Select Closed in the Posted Jobs section
Navigate to the job you want to repost
Use the ellipses button to find the Repost option
Edit details of the job
Specify if you need a free or a paid listing
Post the job
Keep in mind that reposting the job doesn’t exactly resume it—the process creates a new job post entirely. You start with zero applicants and views, and the candidates who applied before may apply again as well. The previous posting will still be visible in the Closed section like before.
Many recruiters use the analytics data of closed jobs to repost similar jobs with better job specifications, screening questions, and other relevant data. The number of views on closed jobs also helps them predict a hiring budget for sponsored reposts.
Tips for Managing Multiple Job Posts and Hire Efficiently on LinkedInÂ
Managing more than one job post on LinkedIn requires considerable planning. Whether you’re using a company or personal account, you get only one free job post at a time, while the rest have to be sponsored posts billed on a pay-per-click plan. Based on top hiring practices on the platform, here are the tips for handling multiple job listings:
Recognize high-priority jobs—Post high-priority jobs as sponsored listings so that they remain on top of search results and attract the attention of qualified professionals. That way, the position can be filled quickly, allowing you to close the job in a short time. You can use your free job slot to list a non-urgent job
Set up a total hiring budget in advance—LinkedIn offers up to a 35% discount if you set up a total hiring budget in advance, which would make a good deal if you have multiple jobs to sponsor
Track applicants regularly—Don’t let applicants pile up after you’ve posted jobs. Reviewing candidates every day can help you know when it’s okay to close a job
Use hiring support software—Paying for job ads day in and day out is expensive. You can greatly reduce your budget by using hiring support software that enables you to pick candidates faster (which means you can close your job ad sooner!). One of your best options is using Workello, a well-reviewed platform that enables you to sort, screen, test, and interview candidates fast and with minimum effort
These tips also apply to LinkedIn Recruiter users. LinkedIn recently changed its pricing policy for recruiter accounts. LinkedIn Recruiter users don’t have to buy job slots anymore—they can post jobs for free and choose the ones they wish to sponsor.
Removing Job Posts on LinkedIn—FAQs
We have found a mix of common questions regarding deleting jobs on LinkedIn—they are answered below.
Can You Completely Erase a Job Posting From LinkedIn Instead of Only Closing It?
LinkedIn’s job closing feature strictly functions as a tool to remove the listing from search results. The platform wants recruiters to have access to the job again in case they want to review or repost it. Currently, there is no way to fully delete a job post from your Manage job posts dashboard. Every inactive job will always:
Appear as one of your closed or expired jobs
Be accessible to candidates who had saved the link to the job (although they won’t be able to apply)
Since job posts on LinkedIn become part of your profile history, it’s crucial you pay attention to the quality of job descriptions you write. The post should overall align with your company’s brand image and messaging.
Can You Delete a Job Post You’ve Shared to Your LinkedIn Connections?
While deleting a LinkedIn job post isn’t possible, you can easily remove the jobs you’ve shared from your feed. Check out the steps involved:
Navigate to the job sharing post in the Activity section of your profile
Click on the drop-down menu for the post
Select Delete
Confirm that you want to delete the post
How Are You Billed for Closing Sponsored Jobs on LinkedIn?
The table below summarizes the billing affair of closing sponsored jobs on LinkedIn:
Situation
Billing Process
You’ve closed a job but are still managing one or more open job posts
LinkedIn will charge you at the start of the next billing cycle, which is every 30 days from the date you first posted a job
Your accrued bill after closing a job is $500 or more
LinkedIn charges you within 24 hours every time your accrued bill exceeds $500
You’ve closed all jobs in your account
LinkedIn charges you within 24 hours if all the open jobs in your account are closed, expired, or suspended
What Are Some Other Platforms for Promoting Jobs?
Recruiters often find it stressful to manage multiple jobs on LinkedIn. The site offers no monthly subscription for job posting via regular accounts, and you may find yourself in this vicious cycle of tracking job clicks, adjusting sponsoring budgets, and closing and reposting jobs.
It’s always a smart idea to keep your job listing options open. Here are some other platforms we’ve reviewed that work as competitive alternatives to LinkedIn:
📨 Post on multiple Job boards and other channels
Post your link on any job board!
Then, go back to the Facebook posts you made, and drop a link to each commenter.
You should also check your DMs and ‘other’ inbox to catch any candidates that reached out directly.
