Medical Copy Editor Job Description Template
We are looking for an experienced Medical Copy Editor to edit, proofread, and fact-check promotional materials for healthcare professionals and patients. You’ll collaborate with Copywriters, Project Managers, and other team members to ensure that digital and print materials are accurate, clear, and of high quality.
To excel in this role, you need to have an eye for detail, possess exceptional writing and editing skills, and understand medical data. While a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or Journalism is a must, a background in Medicine or Science is a strong plus.
Responsibilities
- Editing and proofreading a variety of deliverables, including abstracts, clinical case studies, manuscripts, storyboards, and posters
- Fact-checking and raising questions with the author of the document
- Maintaining and following internal and client-specific editorial style guidelines
- Making sure all copy is accurate and understandable
- Ensuring consistency in style throughout the copy
- Brainstorming with other Editors to discover areas of improvement
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or Journalism
- Background in Medicine or Science is preferable
- 3–5 years of experience working as a Copy Editor in a pharmaceutical advertising agency or medical publishing company
- Working knowledge of the AMA style
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using MS Office
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology
