Tailoring Your Job Description to Your Company’s Needs
When writing a job description, you need to make sure you go into detail. Being clear and specific with your job ad will keep unqualified applicants away and will save you time and money during the hiring process.
If you’re looking for a Junior Technical Writer, you need to mention what type of documentation they will write (what industry the topics revolve around), what requirements you have, and how they reflect on their duties. Note that Junior Technical Writers have less experience and take on fewer responsibilities than mid- and high-level Technical Writers.
If a Junior Technical Writer doesn’t fit the bill, you should hire a similar role, such as:
- Technical Writer Intern—Like Junior Technical Writers, they lack significant experience and can’t cover the most important tasks. They work part-time on beginner-level guides and documents
- Quality Assurance Technical Writer—Creates documentation related to internal quality control processes. They need to collaborate with other business departments and gain insight into different QA concepts
- Mid-Level Technical Writer—An experienced Technical Writer capable of writing documentation that is too high-up for juniors and mentoring them. If you don’t want to teach a new employee everything there is to know about technical writing, you should consider this role instead
