RESUMate Review—Can the Old Man Run With the Youngsters?

Dating back to the late 1980s, RESUMate is one of the oldest applicant tracking systems (ATS), with the first version created in DOS. Today, RESUMate offers both the cloud-based and desktop versions of the platform. You can get the software for a one-time fee or a monthly subscription.

Key Features of RESUMate

RESUMate creates a searchable database, organizing resumes, notes, send-outs, and other information, such as job ad orders and dates. You can import resumes from Excel, LinkedIn profiles, .docx and .pdf files, and emails. If you have a bulk of resumes on your local disk, you can import up to 1,000 of them in one move. RESUMate will automatically parse the resumes, and you can edit data entries. You can also add notes to any resume. 

Once you have a database, you can search resumes by:

• Name
• Address
• Contact info
• Date fields
• Text fields
• Full resume text
• Your notes
• Custom keywords 

You can create Groups, i.e., add entries that have come up in the search results and add them to a single grouping so that you can access them at ease later on and perform bulk actions.

RESUMate also has a Clients tab where you can store information about employers you work for if you’re from a recruiting agency. This way, you can quickly match candidates with open positions and offer them to apply for a job in a different company.

One great side of RESUMate is that it’s fully customizable. You can create interview forms, change data fields, and customize every screen. Using RESUMate for the first time can be a bit complicated, which is why they offer free telephone support for the first three months.

RESUMate Downsides

While RESUMate is excellent at managing a database, there’s not much going on besides it, and it’s lacking in many departments where modern ATS solutions excel. 

It offers no support for job posting and doesn’t guide employers through the hiring process by helping them create assessments and grade candidates. You can’t use RESUMate to move applicants through the funnel—you need to log each candidate’s progress manually, and when you change their status, it doesn’t trigger any automated actions. Resumes are editable, and you risk losing crucial information forever if you’re not careful enough.

You can’t create a custom report, and there’s no self-service portal for candidates to access and learn more about the position and their application status.

Another issue is that it can become unresponsive if you use the cloud-based version, and it can take more time than necessary due to a bad connection. The software itself is complex, and it will take you some time to learn the ropes. If you need telephone support beyond the initial three months, you’ll need to pay $99 for 15 months.

There’s also the design. RESUMate doesn’t do a good job of hiding its age, and it can be challenging to navigate through the system.

RESUMate—Integrations

Since it doesn’t help recruiters set up job posts, RESUMate doesn’t have integrations with any job boards or social media. It currently supports integrations only with the following:

• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Excel
• Outlook

RESUMate—Pricing

RESUMate offers a two-week trial and has three pricing plans:

1. Desktop
2. Cloud
3. Cloud-Office

The Desktop plan is a one-time payment that depends on the number of users you have and can range from $495 (one user) to $14,704 (99 users). You can also pay an additional $99 for the 15-month phone support.

With the Desktop plan, you’ll get an installation file and have RESUMate stored on your local PC. You need to be a Windows user to install the software. The same account can be used from various computers, but you’ll need to pay for additional users if you want to use RESUMate simultaneously. If you have three, four, or five and more users, you’ll get 5%, 15%, and 25% off, respectively. The maximum number of users is 99.

The second two plans are cloud-based and can work on any operating system. The Cloud plan is $49 a month per user, while the Cloud-Office costs $79 a month per user. The only difference is that the Cloud-Office integrates with Microsoft Office. Each plan also comes with a one-time setup fee of $49. You can pay monthly, quarterly (5% off), or semi-annually (10% off).

RESUMate—Customers

Although RESUMate is predominantly aimed at companies based in the United States and Canada (the only supported language is English), it operates in over 50 countries worldwide. 

According to the company, thousands of recruiters use RESUMate to make the right hire, but they have yet to list any particular clients.

Alternatives to RESUMate
